City of Hope is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people with cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Founded more than 100 years ago as a provider of charity care for tuberculosis patients, City of Hope has evolved into a top research and treatment center with global reach. Our main hospital and research center is located in Duarte, California, just northeast of Los Angeles, however we have more than 30 locations throughout Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties and announced in 2019 that we are building a new hospital in Orange County.

City of Hope is one of only 51 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, as designated by the National Cancer Institute and is the leading cancer hospital in the West. The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer recently awarded City of Hope the highest level of accreditation for our exceptional level of cancer care, “Three-Year with Commendation.”

We have a rich history that is unparalleled. From two canvas cottages in a desert to comprehensive cancer center in 100 years, our technology has led to the development of numerous breakthrough drugs, including the four most widely used cancer treatments — Herceptin, Erbitux, Rituxan and Avastin. City of Hope’s research and ground breaking technology has led to the creation of synthetic human insulin (humulin), now used worldwide by millions of people with diabetes. Additionally, City of Hope researchers pioneered the application of gene therapy and blood stem cell transplants to treat patients with HIV and AIDS-related lymphoma.

City of Hope has three manufacturing facilities on campus that meet strict GMP (good manufacturing practice) standards and help turn breakthrough discoveries into lifesaving therapies. City of Hope is currently conducting more than 500 clinical trials, enrolling more than 6,200 patients. And City of Hope holds 300+ patents and submits nearly 30 new drug applications to the FDA each year.

Our mission: to prevent and cure cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Every discovery, breakthrough and advancement is powered by donations of generous supporters like you. Together with your support, we are transforming the future.
