The Brotherhood Crusade is a nonprofit institution founded in 1968 to provide necessary resources, supportive services, and a voice of advocacy to traditionally underserved communities. We do this by providing direct services that promote health and wellness, providing and enhancing educational opportunities, cultivating economic growth and building community agencies and institutions.
We remove and/or help low-income, underserved, and disenfranchised individuals overcome barriers that deter their pursuit of success in life; effectuate academic and vocational success; provide opportunities for personal, social, and economic growth; promote access to artistic excellence and cultural awareness; increase financial literacy; and facilitate opportunities for a better quality of life
The Brotherhood Crusade’s principal mission is dedicated to building and sustaining supportive services, programs that address health, education, social welfare and economic development issues as well as youth development issues.
An astounding 35% (350,000 out of 1,000,000 residents) of the population of South Los Angeles is comprised of children under the age of 18, which is the highest concentration of children in Los Angeles County, and nearly triples the concentration in many regions of the County as well as throughout California.
Given this disproportionate predominance of children and youth, Brotherhood Crusade focuses a majority of its efforts on addressing the unmet needs of children, youth and young adults (which also includes addressing the needs of their families and circles of influence). Our flagship initiative, the Youth Development Program, allows us to reach over 30,000 high-risk youth annually and serve more than 1,500 participants daily.
As a result of this focus and corresponding expertise, the organization has developed programming that impacts the entirety of Los Angeles County. Indeed, Brotherhood Crusade’s countywide efforts combine direct services and advocacy with systems and policy change to improve conditions for all youth with a focus on underserved and disenfranchised populations.
The following goals ensure that all Los Angeles County youth are provided opportunities to succeed in school and in life:
Goal 1: Ensure youth have strong and positive role models in their lives.
Goal 2: Improve the academic performance of youth and their families.
Goal 3: Improve socio-cognitive and relationship skills of youth and their families.
Goal 4: Improve the health outcomes of youth and their families.
Goal 5: Improve access to safe pro-social environments and basic services.
The Brotherhood Crusade services youth, families and individuals in the City of Los Angeles. These areas include but are not limited to South LA, Crenshaw, Lemiert Park, Jefferson Park, Vermont Knolls, West Adams, Hyde Park and East LA. Our work directly reaches residents in all parts of the City of Los Angeles but heavily concentrated in Council Districts 8, 9, and 10.
